All fossil fuels – oil, coal and gas – will inevitably deplete on planet earth. It could take anything between 100 and 200 years. We have to increasingly rely on alternate sources of energy if we have to sustain the current pace of growth and development. Nuclear energy is an attractive option in the intermediate term till the technology to harness solar energy is perfected and matured. A vast majority of the population (I would stick my neck out and put this number upwards of 90%) in the world, let alone India, is simply incapable of understanding this fundamental fact. So can the people’s representatives in parliament be far behind?
It is one of the ironies of democracy that a vast majority of the people do not know what is good for them. That is the reason why opportunist and corrupt politicians thrive and prosper. Historically, the greatest advancements of our civilization have taken place under the leadership of benevolent emperors and dictators.
What pains me is that the people in the know choose to closet themselves in libraries and laboratories. Why couldn’t they have taken to the streets to build up a public opinion and influence our elected representatives? Must we remain silent spectators? Politics is not a game of cricket.

One has to be very clear that this deal is not merely about Nuclear Energy but about 'nuclear aparthied'. Hence the energy argument is a marginal argument and a subject used to cover up and actual intention of the deal... which is kind of politically uncorrect which is -- align with USA!!
