One hundred years ago two accidents took place in this very month. And since then the world has never been the same again.

Thomas Sullivan was a tea merchant in New York. Tired of sending out samples to his customers in the customary tin boxes, he hit upon pouches made of fine muslin cloth. This not only saved him freight but also helped the customers get a quick feel of the tea. Some customers unwittingly dunked the pouches into water, and lo and behold, the tea-bag was born! Tea making had changed in an instant. Without this happy accident, tea would never have been as popular today. More than 100 million tea bags are consumed everyday.

Hundred years ago, on this very day, the tranquility of the Siberian desert was shattered by an explosion 1000 times more powerful than the Hiroshima atomic bomb. What caused this blast in Tunguska? Many theories have been put forward, but there are no fully satisfying conclusions even after 100 years. It is a frightening reminder of how tiny earth and earthlings are in the grand scheme of the Universe
