Call it circus or cricket, the gale force wind generated by IPL seems to be cleansing the Augean stables of the country’s politics. Last Sunday, even more surprising than the results of the Karnataka assembly elections, were some of the candid reactions on the prime time television. S.M Krishna the campaign manager of the Congress owned up responsibility for the party’s defeat and actually complemented BJP. Kapil Sibal, as articulate as ever admitted that BJP’s organization and management skills were superior to that of his party. A reporter quoted Krishna as saying that one of the reasons for the Congress debacle was the failure to project a potential Chief Minister and posed this question to Margaret Alva. I will not disagree with him, she replied with a breathtaking frankness. A BJP spokesman graciously admitted that Gowda’s party had split the anti BJP votes. Such candor is rare among Indian politicians. IPL is spreading the infection of responsibility and accountability
